Charles’s parents are Anna Belle McMaster of Riceville and James R. McMaster, now deceased.
Charles has one daughter, Megan Javne McMaster of Charles City.
Vicky and Charles lived at 1505 Laurel Drive in Decorah for 2 years and then purchased an acreage east of Decorah from Mel and Nancy Macal. This acreage was part of a farm originally owned by Peter Bakke and his descendants. It was purchased by Conrad Olson and then by Mel Macal.
The two-story house was constructed in 1883 with 12 rooms and 31 windows. The original porches are still on the house and much of the original woodwork is intact. Most of the woodwork is pine that has been painted to resemble grained wood. However, the open staircase is solid walnut.
Vicky and Charles have horses, a few cattle and one dog, Scotty, on their acreage.
Vicky has one sister, Kim (Mrs. Mark Schrandt), and 3 nieces, Kelly Lynn, Kara Louise and Stacy Kathryn
Charles has one brother, Thomas J. (Judy) and 2 nieces, Tara Clayton and Tracie Christianson. He has 3 great nephews, Kyle and Colin Christianson and Trevor Bill. Charles also has one sister, Janet (Mrs. Gene Grimm) and 2 nephews, Jeff and Greg Grimm.
Hjelmeland, Reinhardt Anderson and Oleanne Severine (Groneng)

Reinhardt Anderson Hjelmeland son of Anders Rasmussen Hjelmeland and Engel Sofie Olsdtr. Aase, was born 23 Sep 1876 at Bygstad, Sunnfjord, Norway. He attended trade school in Bergen, Norway and learned the trade of cabinetmaking.
Reinhardt married Oleanne Severine Groneng in Bergen 10 Nov 1904. She was born near Forde, Norway 10 Mar 1874 the daughter of Johan Anderson Groneng and Rakel Lovise Knudsdtr. Froisland.
Reinhardt and Oleanne Hjelmeland
Reinhardt emigrated to America in 1907 when he was 30 years old. He lived in Minneapolis, MN for a short time and then traveled to Portland, OR where he found work in the sawmills and lumber camps. His wife and two infant children immigrated to IA in 1909 and stayed with relatives in Fertile, IA until Reinhardt returned from Portland. He found work at the Mason City Manufacturing Co. and they made their home in Mason City until he transferred to Calmar, IA in 1912 and worked for a sash and door factory later called the Calmar Manufacturing Co.
Oleanne died 14 Apr 1934 at age 60. In 1938 Reinhardt married Barbara Klein. She died 8 Feb 1959. Reinhardt died 24 Feb 1964 at age 87.
Reinhardt and Oleanne were members of the Calmar Lutheran Church and were buried in the church cemetery.
They were the parents of 3 children: Robert, Kitty and Conrad. Robert Conrad (b. 1905 Norway) married Marian Woldum in 1933. She and their infant son, David, died in 1933. Robert then married Edith Geneva Erickson in 1936 and they lived in Decorah. They had 4 sons: Harold, Lester, Norman and Carl.
Kittv Agnes (b. 1907 Norway) married Knut Henry Flaskerud in 1932. They lived on a farm near Calmar and were the parents of 3 children: David, Richard, and Margaret.
Conrad John (b. 1912 IA) married Tilda Amelia Espeseth in 1940. They lived in Decorah and had a son David.

Robert Conrad Hjelmeland son of Reinhardt and Oleanne (Groneng) Hjelmeland was born 20 Oct 1905 at Bergen, Norway. He was baptized as Robert Egil Konrad Hjelmeland in Norway. He emigrated to America with his mother and sister, Kitty Agnes Johanna Hjelmeland in 1909. His father, Reinhardt, had emigrated to America in 1907 and was employed at the lumber camps in Portland, Oregon. Oleanne and 2 children came direct to Fertile, IA and stayed at the Rev. Rasmus Hjelmeland home until the father returned from OR.
They made their home in Mason City where another son, Conrad, was born in 1912 and in that same year they moved to Calmar where the father was employed by the Calmar Mfg. Co.
Robert was confirmed at Calmar Lutheran Church in 1921. He attended Calmar Public Schools and graduated from Calmar High School with his sister in 1925. He married Marian Woldum of Decorah in 1933 in Freeport, IL. She and their infant son. David Robert, died in Decorah in 1933. They are buried in the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah.
Robert then married Edith Geneva Erickson on 22 Nov 1936 at the Decorah Lutheran parsonage by the Rev. O. Glesne. She was born 16 Feb 1915 in Canoe Twp., the daughter of Oscar and Marie (Sorenson) Erickson.
Robert and Edith made their home in Decorah with the exception of 6 years when they lived in the Springwater area of Canoe Twp. Robert (Bob) was a longtime employee
